Jeffrey Ranta, MD

Dr. Ranta - Greenwich Physician and UrologistDr. Ranta received his BA in biology from Boston College. From there he earned both his MS in physiology and his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He continued his education at Georgetown University by completing his two year general surgery residency. His Urology residency was done at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Boston where he was Chief Resident from 1983 to 1984.

As the president of Greenwich Urological Associates, P.C., Dr. Ranta is highly experienced at treating all aspects of urological disease. His areas of special interest include the proper diagnosis and treatment of Urologic Cancer, Kidney Stones, Urinary Incontinence and Pelvis Pain Syndromes. Dr. Ranta is also chief of Urology Section at Greenwich Hospital. In 1994, Dr. Ranta founded the Greenwich Prostate Cancer Center and is actively involved in numerous community programs including cancer screenings and lecture series. He maintains active membership in the American Urological Association (AUA), the New England AUA, the Fairfield County Medical Society, and the American Medical Association (AMA). He also was honored with “America Top Physicians for 2014” award from Consumers Research Council of America. Dr. Ranta is licensed in New York and Connecticut and Board Certified.

Nicholas Stroumbakis, MD

Dr. Stroumbakis - Greenwich Physician and UrologistDr. Stroumbakis earned his BA degree from New York University and his medical degree from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. He served his two year surgical internship and residency as well as his four year urological residency at New York Medical College. Dr. Stroumbakis performed his specialized fellowship training in Urological Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 1994 to 1996.

As an accomplished physician at Greenwich Urological Associates, Dr. Stroumbakis treats the entire spectrum of urological disease. His specialization in Urological Oncology has trained him in the proper diagnosis and treatment of prostate, bladder, testicular and kidney cancer. He specializes in performing all nerve sparing procedures. Dr. Stroumbakis has published numerous articles, book chapters and reviews in Urological Oncology. He offers second opinions for urological diseases with peer review of the literature. He performs minimally invasive procedures including scalpel less vasectomy, prostate biopsy, and other office procedures and other extensive surgeries with pain free anesthesia.

He served at Greenwich Hospital as Co-Director of the Prostate Cancer Support Group and Director of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Stroumbakis is licensed on both Connecticut and New York State, and he is an active member of the American Urological Association (AUA) New York Section, American Medical Association. He was awarded with “America’s Top Physicians” in Urology for 2003, 2004, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 from the Consumers Research Council of America. He was named one of Connecticut’s Top Docs in 2012. He is fluent in English and Greek.

Catherine M. Alonzo, MD

Dr. Alonzo earned her BA in biochemistry at Hamilton College and an MS in physiology and biophysics from Georgetown University. She received her medical degree from Drexel University School of Medicine. Dr. Alonzo began her post graduate education with a surgical internship at the University of Connecticut followed by a two-year general surgical residency at Nassau University Medical Center and she completed her urology residency at New York Medical College.

Dr. Alonzo practices general urology, including stone disease, prostatic diseases, and with a focus on female urology, urinary incontinence, voiding dysfunction, and interstitial cystitis. She performs minimally invasive procedures in the office with local anesthesia and minor levels of discomfort; including cystoscopy, prostate biopsy, and no-scalpel vasectomy.

Dr. Alonzo is facile in performing minimally invasive procedures in the hospital setting for a variety of urological illnesses, notably ambulatory procedures for urinary leakage. Her skills include endoscopy and lithotripsy for stones, procedures for prostate enlargement, and laparoscopic and robotic assisted surgeries.

Dr. Alonzo is board certified by the American Board of Urology, and a member of both the American Urological Association and the Society of Women in Urology. She is active in community education and licensed in both Connecticut and New York State. She was also named one of Connecticut’s Top Docs in 2012.
